The Co Mooring Project is a collaboration between four design teams. WYDE, Tomos Design, Studio Yu and CMPNDM. The four studios came together in response to a brief set by Westminster County Council to transform a stretch of undervalued canal near Harrow road into a space that the local community would want to come and use. The proposal was selected from 49 other entries submitted as part of the LFA competition programme.
The sinusoidal curve that forms the basis of the structure creates a series of spaces for use by the local community whilst also encouraging pedestrians and cyclists who pass through the space to slow down and enjoy being next to the canal.
Alongside the installation piece the Co Mooring team also proposed a mooring policy change encouraging canal boaters to engage on the site and enliven the space. This was further supported by a series of community engagement events throughout the July to encourage the local community to come down and use the space.
Through this process of engagement the Co Mooring team worked to understand how the local and boating community would like to see the space used in the future. This information would go on to define a strategic document produced for Westminster Council as part of their larger place plan for the Harrow Road area.
